Geriatric Activities

 

  • Launched geriatric resource section of PNAA Web site with access to PNAA geriatric publications including the geriatric/gerontology section and a special geriatric issue of the PNAA newsletter, Philippine American Nurse
  • Created a geriatric/gerontology interest group
  • Disseminated geriatric/gerontology information through national, regional, and local PNAA conferences in the form of presentations, workshops, and poster sessions
  • Created a PNAAF Geriatric/Gerontology Fellowship Award

 

Events

 

  • Geriatric Community outreach coordinated by Edita Reyes, RN, BSN . A Patient Education on Hypertension was held on June 1, 2006 from 10am-11am at Olen Jones Senior Apartment Community in Rancho Cucamonga. This was accompanied by Blood Pressure Screening which was assisted by Star Home Health Resources, Inc. Every 1st Thursday of the month, Ms. Reyes will be speaking of any disease process common to the geriatrics population.
  • Health Fair/ Community Outreach Program on July 26 & 27, 2006 at Bob Hope Patriotic Hall, 1816 S. Figueroa St. Los Angeles, CA for Filipino Veterans in conjunction with honoring them at the 65th Anniversary of the US Armed Forces in the Far East(USAFFE)

Members of the PNAA Geriatric Project Steering Committee headed by Jenice Guzman, Project Coordinator, attended the Nurse Competence in Aging (NCA)/American Nurses Association (ANA)/Specialty Nursing Association Partners in Geriatrics (SNAPG) Funding meeting in Washington D.C. last October 25, 2006

Awards

Maria Lourdes Bayog is the recipient of the 2006 Phillippine Nurses' Association of America Foundation (PNAAF) Fellow. Ms. Bayog is an MSN student at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) specializing in Advanced Community Health and International Nursing. She works as a Clinical Nurse II at the UCSF Medical Center, Adult Medical Surigical Intensive Care Unit.
