The American Nephrology Nurses' Association (ANNA) has launched their new geriatric web page called Spotlight on Older Adults with up-to-date resources to aid health professionals in the care for older nephrology patients.
The U.S. census estimates that there will be 40 million Americans age 65 years and older in 2010. With the aging of people in the world, and the prevalence of renal diseases in that population, comes a new demand on nephrology nurses to provide quality health care that addresses the needs of older individuals. As the number of older adults receiving nephrology nursing care rise, nephrology nurses need to become more adept at recognizing the unique aspects of nursing the aged.
The Web Fellow spearheading this project is Terran Mathers, DNS, RN. She is also ANNA's Research Committee Chair.
ANNA is a professional nursing association with 11,900 members. Its mission is to advance nephrology nursing practice and positively influence outcomes for patients with kidney disease processes requiring replacement therapies through advocacy, scholarship, and excellence.
