Geriatric Activities
- Created association advisory panel to identify opportunities to incorporate information on health issues for older women into education materials, practice guidelines, news pieces, and nursing research
- Held sessions at annual meetings including, Looking at the Changing Health Care Needs of Women 65 Years and Older
- Launched geriatric page on AWHONN Web site with access to position statements, clinical information, articles and Web-casts
Publications and Position Statements
- *Published a monograph for cardiovascular health entitled, Risk Reduction in the Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease in Women: Lifestyle and Medication Management.
- Incorporate journal articles on the care of women over age 65 into AWHONN publications
Special Interest Groups
- Create an association advisory panel/task force to promote a geriatric agenda within women’s health
Education Modules, Programs and Learning Tools
- *Developed evidence – based guidelines on various topics for nurses to use in order to standardize practice using a scientific basis, with demonstrated improvement in patient outcomes.
- *Developed several educational products in partnership with others for nurses (e.g. osteoporosis) through support from pharmaceutical companies.
- Developed a geriatric page on the AWHONN website entitled "Practice Resources for the Care of Women Over 65."
- AWHONN will promote dual-certification in gerontological nursing through the AWHONN website and the Lifelines publication through a public service ad.
