  • Revised ATS current standards/statements used as “best practice” statements to incorporate geriatrics; disseminated in journal & on online
  • Offered geriatric-focused symposia & workshop for ATS conferences
  • Developed positions for geriatric specialist representation on committees
  • Disseminated geriatric information to members through publications

 

Publications and Position Statements

  • Revise ATS position statements to incorporate a geriatric focus or subsection. The following position statements have been targeted for initial review:
    • Research Priorities in Respiratory Nursing
    • Home Care for Patients with Respiratory Disorders
    • Joint ATS/ERS Statement on Pulmonary Rehabilitation

 

Presentations, Workshops and Seminars

 

  • Provide a geriatric focused symposium "Focus on Gerontology: Care of Older Adults with Chronic Lung Disease" and workshop "Distinctive Aspects of Respiratory Assessment of Older Adults" at the May 2006 ATS Conference.

 

Awards

 

  • The ATS Nursing Assembly offers a Nurse Competence in Aging Award to a member that has demonstrated outstanding commitment to care for older adults.
